Calvary Christian College started from a vision to build a school with Christian values as the foundation of all learning.  With just three teachers and 52 students, the school first opened its doors on January 31, 1978 in the Church Hall on Sturt Street, Townsville.

The congregation of Calvary Temple Assembly of God (now Calvary Christian Church), were the driving force behind getting the College up and running, sewing uniforms, building desks and preparing facilities.

The last 40-plus years has seen the College grow from strength to strength.  Now situated on a spacious 60-acre site along Bayswater Road, Calvary Christian College is home to over 900 students from the Early Learning Centre through to Year 12.

The growth of the College continues on today, with multiple state of the art facilities added to the site in recent years.  These include a library with a 150 seat lecture theatre, indoor multi-purpose Sports Centre, a Performing and Creative Arts Centre, Hospitality Centre, Science Centre and most recently, a brand new playground for our Primary students featuring a jumping pillow and flying fox. 

While many things have changed over our 40-plus year journey, some things remained unchanged.  Our mission at Calvary is to: “Graduate young people of strong Christian character who will become an influence for good in their world. It is our goal to equip and empower young people through faith in Christ to go on to make a positive contribution to the world in which they live.”

Also unchanged is our commitment to building strong partnerships with parents and families to see the very best educational outcomes achieved for every child.  This fundamental relationship between home and school is central to everything we do at Calvary.
